EUDR: How to request a deforestation (DF) check

How to request a deforestation check for your inbound products and open the result for each plot.

🛠️ How-to guide · For users who manage inbound products in EUDR and want to run a deforestation check on their origins and read the result per plot.

A deforestation (DF) check assesses every plot of an origin for forest loss after 31 December 2020, the cut-off date of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). You request it for one or more products at once, and Prewave checks every origin of those products that is ready for a check.

Before you start

  • Deforestation checks are enabled for your environment. If they are not, the request dialog tells you so; contact your tool admin, then Customer Success.

  • The product has at least one active origin whose deforestation check status is Required.

  • If your admin has turned on automation, new origins are checked automatically and you do not need to request them.

How to request a deforestation check

Select the products

  1. Open Compliance > EUDR and select the "Inbound" tab.

  2. Select the checkbox of each product you want to check. The "DF Assessment" column shows Required for products that still need a check.

  3. Select the "Request DF Check" button above the list. The number in brackets is the number of selected products.

Check what will be sent

The "Confirm check request" dialog sorts your selection into two groups:

  • "Can produce a DF check request": products with at least one origin that can be checked. Only these origins are sent.

  • "Cannot produce a DF check request": products without such an origin, for example because every origin already has a result or a check is in progress.

Each group names up to 10 products, followed by the number of further products.

Send the request

⚠️ Important: The first check on a product counts that product against your contracted deforestation check quota. Further checks on the same product do not use more quota.

Select "Request Check". The button shows how many of the selected products are sent, for example "Request Check (1 of 4)". If none of the selected products can be checked, the dialog only offers "Close".

You can tell it worked when the message "The request was executed" appears and the "DF Assessment" column shows Pending for the requested products. The product keeps Pending until the check of each requested origin has a result.

How to open the result of a check

Open the result once the check has finished: the origin shows Negligible or Non-negligible instead of Pending.

Open the origin

  1. On the "Inbound" tab, select the arrow in the "Origins" column of the product to show its origins.

  2. In the origin row, select the deforestation check status (Negligible or Non-negligible). The "Deforestation check" page of the origin opens.

If you are working on the "Origin Request" tab, open the request and select the status in its "DF Check" column instead. The page opens in a new browser tab.

ℹ️ Good to know: Some origins were checked with Version 1 of the methodology. You cannot select their status, and the tooltip says that no detailed information is available for v1 deforestation checks. Version 1 has no plot-level results.

Read the result

The top of the page shows the origin's status, the methodology version (V2), the producer and country, and a summary with Plots, Forest loss in scope, Flagged and Check date.

Open a plot

  1. To list only the plots with forest loss, set the "Deforestation check state" filter to Non-negligible.

  2. Select a plot to open it. The plot page shows the plot area and the forest loss in scope. Below, the "Assessment window" runs from the EUDR cut-off to the production end, and "Detections" lists each forest loss in that window with its date.

  3. To use the plot's geometry elsewhere, select the "Copy GeoJSON" button.

You have reached the plot when the breadcrumb at the top ends with "Plot" and the plot's ID.

A product shows Required in the "DF Assessment" column while any of its origins still needs a check. Otherwise, a product is Non-negligible as soon as one of its origins is Non-negligible, and Negligible when every checked origin is Negligible. The status in the product row does not open a page; open the origin instead.
