In case you are looking to understand what a Deforestation Check is and what types we offer, please refer to this article.
How to request a Deforestation Check
In order to be able to request a DF Check, you need to have an origin added to your product.
Basic Deforestation Check
You can request a Basic Deforestation Check by either clicking on the "Required" label in the DF Assessment column (shown on the screenshot above) or by selecting multiple products and clicking "Request DF-Check." (shown on the screenshot below)
Following either request, a pop up window will appear to confirm sending the Deforestation Check. Once you click on "Send" the process is finished.
You should receive the results of the Deforestation Check within a few minutes.
Whenever a DF Check has been requested, it will be displayed with a yellow banner below the "Required" button:
Following the basic Deforestation Check, there are two possible outcomes:
If the result shows negligible risk, the product is considered to come from a deforestation-free area.
If the result shows a non-negligible risk, the product is considered to come from a deforestation area and needs an advanced check.
If the Basic Deforestation Check shows a non-negligible risk, a "DF Check Non-Negligible" label will appear, and you'll have the option to request an Advanced Deforestation Check by clicking "Request Advanced Check."
Advanced Deforestation Check
If the Basic Deforestation Check indicates a non-negligible risk, an Advanced Deforestation Check can be requested. Since there is a chance of false positives, it’s important to verify whether actual deforestation has occurred. If an advanced check is required, Prewave will forward your request to our partner Satelligence and integrate the responses in our EUDR Process landscape. This more detailed check comes at an additional cost, depending on the available quantity of detailed checks based on your contract terms. We recommend that your project team aligns on the decision before proceeding with this step. You can monitor your remaining advanced checks in Prewave by hovering over the “Request Advanced Check” field.
If the Advanced Deforestation Check also shows a non-negligible risk, no further actions can be taken for the product, and the DDS will be blocked. In this case, you’ll need to deactivate the origin and find a new producer to mitigate the risk.
What to do when many new products are uploaded at once?
After uploading the origins and completing the Supplier Maturity Assessment, the system will indicate whether a Deforestation (DF) Check is required by showing the “Required” label. The most efficient way to request a deforestation check is by multi-selecting the products and clicking "Request DF Check". The user can search for specific suppliers, products, or origins to select the relevant items for the DF request. As previously mentioned, the initial Deforestation Check conducted will always be a Basic Check.
